Little River History

One of the oldest settlements along the coast is Little River.    This quaint fishing village is a wonderful place to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.  Indians named the stream running through the area Mineola which means little river.  This stream eventually became part of the Intracoastal Waterway.  The area was a haven for pirates such as Captain Kidd and Blackbeard.  During the Civil War smugglers and blockade-runners were prevalent.
